The design, depicting elaborate birds and exotically lush foliage in Brazil’s coastal mangroves forests proved popuar. It was reissued three times, most recently in 1905. Fuchs probably drew inspiration from the work of the German, Johann Moritz Rugendas, published between 1827 and 1835 after the latter’s extensive travels through South America.
