ABOUT IAN SANDERSON

Ian Sanderson is an English family business that specialises in designing and producing fabrics and trimmings for residential and contract interiors. The company was created in 1962 by Ian Sanderson.  Having previously worked at a London wholesaler selling fabrics to designers in London, Ian realised that Interior designers needed more choice.  His company originally based in Charlotte Street in London’s West End, introduced from Europe and the USA more elaborate designs and colours suited for the 60's lifestyle.

Expansion saw the company move to a warehouse and showroom near the Post Office Tower near Cleveland Street, the district for furnishings in the 70's and 80's.  Here Ian created his own ranges of fabrics; weaves and prints were produced by UK and European mills, a designer was employed to create signature designs.  He sold popular dupions, chintz fabrics, velvets and other weaves such as classic damasks, textured semi plain weaves and latterly stripe and check designs which he became synonymous for in the 1980 and still today.  Ian had a skill in identifying great fabrics for his clients, which in the early days included new interior designers such as Nina Campbell and Tricia Guild.

In the 1980’s the warehouse was relocated to Newbury in West Berkshire, 70 miles & about one hour’s drive west of London. Since 1995 the company has been run by Julian and Helen Sanderson.  The current design philosophy is to create unique designs and colours to maintain and strengthen our unique identity and look.  Presently we are combining our solid core of plain and semi plain fabrics with prints and weaves slightly vintage or retro. We are a growing business with a great reputation for quality and service.
