Dimensions: de Gournay wallpapers are produced as panels in any height up to 4.3m. Total panel length is 0.60 more than the chosen design height when ordering via the straight run method and 0.30m more than your wall height when ordering via the tailored method. These wallpapers are 0.915m wide after trimming except where marked. Customisation of design elements, colourways and panel heights are fully available though subject to additional charge.

Collection: Chinoiserie

Details: A variety of profusely flowering trees form a dense canopy beneath which large exotic birds are seen perched while smaller colourful ones dart between the leaves and branches. The ground has a detailed design of moss and rocks and great attention has been given to recreating the action packed and densely designed feel of the original 18th century Chinese botanical papers. There is much Chinese symbolism in the choice and arrangements of the birds and butterflies relative to one another derived from Confucian concepts of happiness and harmony.

de Gournay gathered design details for the pattern from various sources, much coming from papers at Nostell Priory and Milton Manor, but also drawing from archives at the V&A museum in London. The beautiful and elegant Nostell Priory Chinese paper hangs in a bedroom made for Sir Rowland Winn which also incorporates wonderful furniture commissioned from Thomas Chippendale. The house, which was given to the National Trust in 1953 by Lord St Oswald, is a wonderful imposing Palladian mansion which is best known for the impressive state rooms designed by the architect Robert Adam in 1765.
