Details: Matmi, or mudmee, is the Thai word that literally means tied threads. It is the Isaan word for the beautiful tie-dyed, hand woven ikat textiles that have soft patterns created by their dyed weft yarns. Woven in one of Jim Thompsons truly signature artisanal qualities, Matmi uses the painstaking ancient technique of hand tying and dyeing, then hand weaving two-ply Thai silk yarns in a thoroughly modern, full-width abstract pattern. Several hues blend together in shimmering, irregular stripes across the surface. The resulting fabric gives a contemporary interpretation to the artisanal quality and lustrous beauty of Thai silk.
